CAR EXCHANGE

Over fifty percent of the people who exchange homes for vacations and holidays also exchange the use of a car, or other vehicle.

Increasingly, car exchanges are becoming more popular amongst home exchangers. It's a great convenience to exchangers because it saves the hassle and expense of renting a car.

You should check with your insurance provider (and by reference to your policy documents) that the exchange driver will be covered.

Agree that the user meets all costs of fuel and oil, and makes good any damage to paint work, upholstery, tyres etc. which will not be covered by insurance.

Agree the maximum number of miles the vehicle may be driven during the period of exchange, and agree a charge for any additional miles.

Leave your car clean, full reservoir, road maps and phone numbers in case of breakdown on the road.

Leave copies of your car insurance and registration. Also, you might want to get your car tuned up.

Some exchangers arrange for the cars to be left at airports, if this is done ensure you know where the keys are being left for collection, as does your exchange partner. This has a value in saving car parking fees, taxis and car rentals.

Treat your exchange partners car with the same respect as you expect them to treat yours.
